A new economics of human judgment
Computational Economy is an independent research initiative dedicated to understanding how advances in computation reshape economics, organizations, science, and human decision making.
Why this exists
Every major technological revolution has changed more than the tools we use. The steam engine changed the economics of physical production. Electricity changed the economics of manufacturing. The Internet changed the economics of information.
Today, advances in computation are changing something more fundamental: the economics of knowledge and decision making.
Yet most public conversation remains at the surface. We debate whether AI will replace jobs. We compare benchmark scores. We discuss productivity gains. These are legitimate questions. They are not the deepest ones.
The more important question is:
That question is the foundation of this project.
Beyond technology
Computational Economy is not about celebrating technology, nor about predicting the next breakthrough. Technology is only the mechanism. The real subject is transformation.
Every advance in computation changes:
- what can be measured,
- what can be modeled,
- what can be optimized,
- and ultimately how resources are allocated.
Those changes reshape organizations, markets, and society.
The shift underway
For decades, organizations have described themselves as “data-driven.” That description was only partially true. Organizations optimized what already fit into databases and spreadsheets. The most valuable information stayed outside quantitative analysis: conversations, judgment, competitive dynamics, customer sentiment, organizational behavior, ecosystem relationships.
Foundation models fundamentally reduce the cost of transforming language and qualitative knowledge into structured decision variables. This is not merely an improvement in software. It changes the economics of applying management science itself.
From information to Decision Capital
The next competitive advantage will not come from collecting more data. It will come from building better decision systems.
This project introduces Decision Capital as one way to understand that shift: the accumulated organizational capability to transform fragmented information into superior resource allocation under uncertainty. Like human capital or intellectual capital, it compounds. It can be developed. It can become a durable source of competitive advantage.
A research agenda, not a commentary
This work is intentionally interdisciplinary. Its questions live at the intersection of computer science, economics, management science, decision science, strategy, scientific computing, and organizational theory.
The goal is not to produce commentary. The goal is to produce frameworks. You can see the current research agenda and the frameworks in development.
Principles
Think from first principles
Avoid fashionable language. Explain underlying mechanisms.
Study second-order effects
The interesting question is rarely what a technology does. It is what the technology changes.
Build vocabulary
Ideas become durable when they become language. Frameworks matter more than predictions.
Prefer evergreen thinking
Write ideas that remain useful years from now.
Stay intellectually humble
Every framework is provisional. Ideas improve through discussion, criticism, and evidence.
A living institution
This is not intended to be a traditional blog. It is intended to become a living digital research institute. Frameworks will evolve. Essays will be revised. Definitions will improve. Ideas will mature.

An invitation
The challenges created by modern computation cannot be understood through a single discipline. They require economists who understand computation. Engineers who appreciate incentives. Scientists who think about organizations. Executives who value models. Researchers willing to cross boundaries.
Computational Economy is an invitation to build that conversation together.
The Industrial Revolution amplified physical labor. The Internet amplified access to information. The computational revolution is amplifying our ability to model, reason, and allocate resources under uncertainty.
Its greatest contribution may not be artificial intelligence. It may be a new economics of human judgment.
